What does "dancesport" mean?
Dancesport is the official name given to competitive ballroom dancing. But you don't have to compete to get involved! Like other sports it requires learning proper technique and form. This is the type of dancing you see on shows like PBS' America's Ballroom Challenge.

What are the Latin dances?
In International Style, the following 5 dances make up the Latin category - Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive.

What are the Standard dances?
In International Style, the following 5 dances make up the Standard category - Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep.

Do I have to have a partner or prior experience to take a group class?

No. Individuals and couple are welcome to attend. All levels of experience are encouraged and Ryan can help you find the best class to suit your goals.

Do I need to sign up for a whole session?
No. While group classes are usually offered as part of a multi-week series, no registration or pre-payment is required. Students may attend on a drop-in/per class basis or purchase a class card.

The following group classes are currently offered through Dance Center Chicago, 3868 N. Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL. All experience levels are welcome.

BEGINNING LATIN DANCESPORT: SAMBA | 7:00-8:00 pm
August 9 - September 2
This beginning level, group class introduces International Style Pre-Bronze and Bronze syllabus steps and technique. No prior dance experience or partner is necessary.

INTERMEDIATE LATIN DANCESPORT: CHA CHA | 8:00-9:00 pm
August 9 - September 2
This intermediate level, group class is based on the International Style Silver syllabus steps and introduces some open choreography. Students are encouraged to take the beginning level class before entering intermediate or to have prior dance experience. No partner is necessary.

SWING I | 7:00-8:00 pm

August 9 - September 2
This introductory-level, group class covers the basics of this popular "Rock and Roll" style. Swing is a great social dance that you can take to any event. No prior dance experience or partner is necessary.

DANCE CENTER CHICAGO CLASSES
Single class rate is $12. Packages are also available - $55 for a 5-class card or $100 for a 10-class card (valid for any Dance Center Chicago class; expires 1 year from date of purchase).
